Pool opening: from winter cover to clear water

Cover off, equipment running, water treated: your season starts with a clean pool.

The service

Spring sets the tone for the season

Pool with green water full of leaves and debris, as it often looks in the spring

After winter, the water has often turned green and the equipment hasn't run since the fall. An opening puts everything back in order, and in the right order, before the first swim.

We also flag what winter left behind, such as a weeping fitting or a pump that struggles to prime, while there's still time to act.

Who it's for

  • Inground and above-ground pools

You'd rather leave the start-up to a team that does it every spring.

  • New homeowners

You don't know how the pool got through the winter: the opening is the time to take stock.

What the opening includes

  1. Pumping water off the cover, then removing the winter cover
  2. Removing the winterizing plugs and reinstalling accessories
  3. Adjusting the water level
  4. Restarting the filtration and, if applicable, the pool heater
  5. Circulation check: priming, flow, visible leaks
  6. Start-up cleaning: skimmer, baskets and pool floor
  7. Water testing, shock treatment and initial balancing

What about the fall?

Openings and closings are often booked together. The team that opens your pool already knows the equipment it will protect before the freeze.

How it works

Request a quote
  1. You get in touch

Tell us the type of pool and its equipment. A photo of the pool under its cover, sent by email, helps us prepare for the visit.

  2. You clear the way

Unlock the gate and turn the outdoor tap back on: we use it to bring the water level up.

  3. Opening day

Cover, water level, equipment, circulation, then chemistry. Before we leave, we make sure everything runs without leaks.

  4. The days after

You get a clear rundown. Very green water often needs more than one treatment: we tell you what to watch for.

Frequently asked questions

When should I open my pool?

In the spring, once overnight frosts become rare. The warmer the water gets under the cover, the bigger the head start algae gets: opening early makes clear water easier to get back.

The water under the cover is green. Is that bad?

It's the most common sight in spring, and it can be treated: cleaning, shock treatment and continuous filtration. How long it takes depends on the algae and debris; we'll give you an honest answer once we've seen the pool.

Do I need to be home for the opening?

No. We need access to the yard, the equipment, an electrical outlet and an outdoor tap that's turned on.

Someone else closed my pool. Can you open it?

Yes. Tell us what you know about the closing, including where the removed parts are stored. We check the equipment carefully before starting it up again.
