Pool closing, done before the hard frost sets in
Lines blown out, equipment protected, cover on: your pool gets through the winter safe from the freeze.
The service
What winter does to a poorly closed pool

In the Ottawa–Gatineau region, water left in a line, a pump or a filter freezes, expands and cracks whatever holds it. The damage often shows up in spring: a cracked fitting, a broken pump housing, a leak under the pavers.
Winterizing prevents those breaks. It's precision work, where a single missed line is enough to cause damage.
Who it's for
Inground pools
Buried lines and built-in fittings: that's where blowing out the lines matters most.
Above-ground pools
Pump, filter and hoses to drain, and a cover held firmly against wind and snow.
Opening and maintenance clients
We already know your equipment, which makes the closing simpler.
What the closing includes
- Pool cleaning: skimmer, baskets, debris on the floor
- Water testing and balancing for the winter
- Water level adjusted for your pool and cover
- Blowing out the lines and installing the winterizing plugs
- Draining and protecting the equipment, pool heater included
- Removing accessories: ladder, baskets, return fittings
- Installing the winter cover
Frost in the forecast before your appointment?
A single night of frost can crack a full line. Until your closing, keep the pump running around the clock: moving water freezes much more slowly.

How it works

Fall goes by fast: book as soon as swimming season ends, before the hard frosts.
Get the yard ready
Clear the way to the pool and the equipment, and bring out the winter cover and plugs.
Closing day
Cleaning, chemistry, water level, blow-out, equipment, then the cover. Every line is checked before it's plugged.

What we noted at closing guides the opening: parts removed, things to watch.

Frequently asked questions
When should I close my pool?
Once the water is cooling down, but before the hard frosts. Too early and algae takes hold under the cover; too late and the lines risk freezing.
Why do the lines need to be blown out?
Water expands as it freezes, enough to crack a line, a fitting or a pump housing. Blowing out the lines removes it from those places.
Should I drain the pool for the winter?
Generally, no: the water helps hold the structure and the liner in place. Instead, we adjust the level for your type of pool and cover.
What about my pool heater?
It gets drained and protected just like the pump and the filter. Mention it when you book.
My winter cover is damaged. What should I do?
Let us know before the visit: a torn cover lets in leaves and meltwater. It's better to replace it before closing.
